Cameron from Prince George British Columbia sent our editor the following question. Can drinking too much carrot juice turn my skin orange? The answer is yes, however you would have to drink an unusually high volume of carrot juice for this to happen. With regard to the process itself, what happens when you drink huge volumes of carrot juice, is that large amounts of beta-carotene accumulate within your skin, which in turn gives your skin a slightly orange color. Obviously your skin won't turn bright orange, it would only be a slight hue, and would likely appear only in the thick folds of your skin. I do not recommend that anyone attempt to trigger this effect, as high levels of beta-carotene within your system can strain the liver and kidneys, and may even lead to toxicity. We appreciate Cameron sending us this unique question, and hope that our answer is sufficient.
